Snuffy and Satchmo are used to being fed early in the morning. They get vocal about it meow meow meow , which means "get up and feed me!"
They both have their favorites when it comes to eating. Snuffy likes:
asparagus (but only the tips) |
broccoli |
shrimp |
sushi (his favorite is ahi-tuna, but smoked salmon may be substituted) |
"crunchy" kitty-snacks |
smoked mackerel |
chicken (filets or tenders; 40 sec in the microwave, cool off with cold water, pull into shreds); he'll also steal it off your plate |
Satchmo likes:
melons. We know this, because we caught him is the act of helping himself to half of a honeydew melon on the kitchen counter. He carefully digs out all the seeds (they go on the floor) and then digs in. |
sushi, but only the ahi-tuna |
"soft" kitty treats |
whipped cream |
dutch "stroopwafel" crumbs |
home-made tomato-based pasta sauce (from your plate) |
They both expect to get a snack or a piece of what you're eating
when dinner is served. Don't leave your cereal bowl unattended, your milk is fair game to
them! They appreciate it when you move the cereal to the side at little bit, so it's
easier to get to the milk. They are part of the family and sit on the dinner
table during meals.
Snuffy loves to stretch out on a pillow in front of the fireplace and Satchmo is afraid of
the fire. He is getting better though, he used to leave the room when the fire was lit,
now he'll sit on your lap. He is really a lap cat and Snuffy likes to sit next to
you, and squeeze in between you and the armrest..
Snuffy likes his chin scratched, Satchmo is a lap-cat and likes to butt your hand with his
head. Snuffy sleaps between my feet, Satchmo likes to sleep on my belly.
Snuffy is a cunning linguist. He has a vocabulary of several words: "birdie-birdie", "happie-happie" (has nothing to do with "happy", but is derived from the Dutch word "hapje" - "little snack" or "little bite of food"), "uit" (Dutch for "out"), and "kippetje" (Dutch for "little chicken"= food!). When I told him, I'd teach him English, he replied "Me? How?".
It's
fun to watch them chatter at the birds. In the photo they are looking out the
window that has a bird feeder stuck to it.
